Minecraft PE 26.20.20 [Beta] — Tall Grass from Bonemeal, Sky Shimmer & Vibrant Visuals Expansion

Minecraft Preview 26.20.20 drops the “1.” prefix for good—this is the 2026 Drop 2 build hitting Android. Seven gameplay tweaks, twenty-six bug fixes, and a massive 82 technical changes under the hood. Highlights: bonemeal finally grows tall grass instead of just flowers, the sky gets a subtle shimmer effect in Fancy graphics, and Vibrant Visuals now plays nice with armor stands and Nautilus Shell armor. Plus baby turtles actually swim instead of teleporting through water. Backup your worlds—this is bleeding-edge Preview territory.

The Seven Changes

  1. Tall Grass from Bonemeal: Using bone meal on grass blocks now has a chance to spawn tall grass (the two-block variant), not just short grass and flowers. Finally a reliable way to farm tall grass for decorative builds without silk-touch shears. Works on both dirt and grass blocks.
  2. Sky Shimmer Effect: Fancy graphics mode now renders subtle atmospheric glitter in the skybox during daytime. Not quite ray-traced god rays, but adds depth to clear weather without killing framerate on mid-tier phones.
  3. Vibrant Visuals Expansion: The experimental Vibrant Visuals toggle now supports all armor types—including Nautilus Shell armor—and armor stands. Previously these items rendered in “legacy” mode when VV was on, causing visual mismatch. Now your drip is consistent.
  4. Torch Recipe Unlock Logic: The torch crafting recipe now auto-unlocks when you obtain either a stick, coal/charcoal, or any pickaxe. Previously required sticks + coal specifically; now miners who find coal first don’t need to craft dummy sticks to see the recipe. QoL for fresh survival starts.
  5. Baby Turtle Swimming Animation: Baby turtles now use proper swim animations instead of the “hover-slide” bug where they drifted like flying squirrels underwater. They actually paddle with flippers now.
  6. Realms Subscription Tabs Removed: The intrusive “Subscriptions” tab is gone from world settings. Less UI clutter when managing Realms; subscription status now lives only in the profile menu where it belongs.
  7. Pig Eating Sounds: Pigs now have distinct munching and snorting audio when feeding them carrots, potatoes, or beetroots. Previously silent; now you get proper feedback for breeding farms.

26 Bug Fixes — From “-1 Hours” to Physics Tweaks

Category Fix Details
Stats Fixed the “-1 hours” bug on the achievements playtime statistic. Your grind now displays correctly instead of looking like time travel.
Combat Knockback effects now match Java Edition physics—entity velocity arcs are consistent cross-platform for PvP parity.
Input Camera no longer rotates when interacting with blocks in full keyboard mode (Chromebook/DeX). You can open chests without spinning 90 degrees.
Vibrant Visuals Spyglass and Carved Pumpkin overlay effects now disable automatically when taking screenshots. No more orange-tinted portfolio shots.
Textures Fixed front-face texture mirroring on patterned Shields. Banner patterns now align correctly when blocking.
Ray Tracing Corrected reflection values when hardware RT is enabled. Water and metal surfaces no longer blow out to pure white on Snapdragon GPUs.
Particles Green growth particles no longer appear when feeding baby mobs under the Golden Dandelion’s anti-aging effect. Visual feedback now matches the mechanic.
Entity Physics Baby Striders no longer hover above lava/ground; they properly sink to collision height like adults.
Villager AI Further tuning of villager pathfinding speed to job sites. They exit houses at normal walking pace, not sprinting or crawling.
Mob Models Texture fixes for Piglins, Rabbits, Pigs, Hoglins, and Brown Pandas. UV mapping errors that caused z-fighting on ears/snouts patched.
Bed/Slime Physics Mobs no longer “pre-jump” before hitting beds or slime blocks. Contact vibration is now level 2 (was level 3), matching sculk sensor expectations.
UI World save window no longer disappears when interacting with background menus. Realms creation buttons properly highlight. PS4/5 icon restored for cross-play indicators.

Technical Overhaul — 82 Changes for Creators

Massive API dump for add-on developers:

  • New minecraft:bonemeal_feature component supporting tall grass placement rules
  • Vibrant Visuals pipeline exposed to custom armor materials via render_controllers/vibrant
  • Recipe unlocking triggers expanded: inventory_changed now accepts tool tags (pickaxe_any)
  • Entity animation controller fixes for aquatic baby mobs (turtle, strider)
  • Sculk vibration frequency adjustments for bed/slime contact (15 → 7 game ticks)
  • Sky renderer hooks for shader-based shimmer effects (experimental resource pack support)

BETA WARNING: This is 26.20.20—the new 2026 numbering system. Vibrant Visuals still crashes on Mali-G57 GPUs when combined with Nautilus armor. Tall grass bonemeal mechanics may break existing flower farms. Back up everything before installing; this build uses experimental protocol version 26.20.
