Minecraft PE 1.26.20.23/24 [Beta] — Chaos Cubes Drop, Sulfur Caves & Cinnabar Blocks

The Drop 2 2026 beta just exploded onto Android. Minecraft Preview 1.26.20.23/24 introduces the “Chaos Cubes” content drop—a toxic underground biome expansion featuring sulfur-eating mobs, acid lakes, and blazing red cinnabar architecture. Meet the Sulfur Cube mob that literally devours blocks and mutates based on its diet, explore Sulfur Springs spewing poison gas, and craft with two new block families: Sulfur and Cinnabar. 19 bug fixes and 42 technical API changes included. Backup your worlds—this experimental build rewrites cave generation.

Chaos Cubes — Drop 2 2026 Breakdown

This isn’t a minor patch; it’s a full biome drop. The underground just got dangerous and visually stunning:

  • Sulfur Cubes: New mob with block-devouring AI. Spawns in Sulfur Caves, eats terrain, and visually transforms based on what it consumed—eat stone get gray, eat sulfur get yellow, eat cinnabar get red. Experimental AI that Mojang wants players to discover organically.
  • Sulfur Springs: New surface and underground lake variants emitting toxic gas. Identifiable by surrounding Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks. Swimming here without protection applies nausea.
  • Concentrated Sulfur Block: Place this in water to create bubbling hot springs that emit poison gas clouds. Functional decoration for trap builds or atmospheric evil lairs. The gas actually deals damage over time.
  • Sulfur Caves: New cave biome generating shallow pools, Glow Lichen, and scattered Sulfur/Cinnabar deposits. These caves glow amber-red from the cinnabar ore. Sulfur Cubes spawn here naturally.
  • Sulfur & Cinnabar Blocks: Two complete block families with saturated yellow (sulfur) and deep red (cinnabar) palettes. Full crafting suite: stairs, slabs, walls, polished variants. Think Nether brick aesthetics but with toxic chemistry vibes.

The Sulfur Cube — Block-Eating Mutant

This mob is the star of the drop. It’s essentially a slime that metabolizes blocks:

  • Habitat: Exclusively Sulfur Caves
  • Diet: Any solid block (dirt, stone, ores, even player-placed blocks)
  • Mutation: Changes texture/color based on last consumed block type
  • Behavior: Passive until provoked, but destroys terrain while pathfinding—like a mobile erosion event

Mojang explicitly left hidden mechanics for players to discover through experimentation. Test different block types to see mutation outcomes.

19 Bug Fixes — From Mouse Sensitivity to Minecart Physics

Category Fix Details
Input Mouse sensitivity adjustment fixed on Windows—no more hyper-acceleration when DPI scaling is above 100%.
Textures Enabling texture streaming no longer causes Bows and Crossbows to vanish from inventory/hand. Weapon models load correctly with streaming active.
iOS Physical keyboard input on iOS devices restored—Bluetooth keyboards now register keypresses correctly on iPads.
UI Feedback popup text updated with current contact methods. Missing subtitles added for all baby mob variants introduced in previous drops.
Gameplay Leaf decay now follows proper random tick distribution—no more floating leaf clusters after cutting trees.
Blocks Using Bone Meal on Moss Blocks no longer replaces adjacent non-moss blocks with moss—prevents accidental terraforming of builds.
Commands /loot command executes correctly without throwing “unknown item” errors for custom loot tables.
Redstone Minecarts properly transmit momentum impulses to adjacent carts—fixed the “dead cart” bug where linked carts wouldn’t push each other.
Combat Fixed delay and damage display for fall damage—numbers appear instantly on landing, not 0.5s later.
Graphics Slime jump animation lighting fixed in Vibrant Visuals mode—no longer glows black during leaps.
Rendering Cobweb texture displays correctly when camera clips into them—no more invisible spider traps.
Mobs Ravagers now correctly destroy leaves and crops without destroying flowers and decorative plants—targeting AI refined.
Realms Fixed crashes when returning from the Realms subscription selection screen—no more soft-locks on payment pages.

Technical Changes — 42 API Additions

Add-on creators get new toys for the Chaos Cubes mechanics:

  • New minecraft:block_consumption component for creating custom block-eating mobs (replicate Sulfur Cube behavior)
  • Biome API updated with sulfur_caves and sulfur_springs biome tags
  • Gas/particle effect registry for poison cloud emitters (minecraft:area_effect_cloud variants with custom textures)
  • Block mutation states for the Sulfur Cube—exposed for resource packs and behavior packs
  • Cinnabar and Sulfur block JSON templates (full block family definitions)
  • Updated loot table conditions for the /loot command fixes

BETA WARNING: This is 1.26.20.23/24—Drop 2 experimental content. Sulfur Caves generate aggressively and can replace existing cave systems in explored chunks. Sulfur Cubes cause block updates that may lag redstone contraptions. Back up your worlds before loading; this build uses experimental protocol version 1.26.20.
